CBIL - Finalist in Commemorative Quarter Contest

Last year St. Louis Community College’s CBIL Creative and Design Team submitted an entry in the Missouri Commemorative Quarter Design Contest. The U.S. Treasury Department evaluated CBIL’s design, along with eleven others and selected five finalists. CBIL’s steamboat design is now one of five final designs competing to become Missouri’s Commemorative Quarter.

This was a true team effort. The team assembled several ideas and designs before settling on the steamboat concept. The team felt it was important to produce a design that spoke to the entire state, not just the St. Louis region. It was also important not to single out any one person or the efforts of a small group of people. The steamboat was selected because it represented not only an important avenue for transportation and commerce during the 19th and 20th centuries, but because it was emblematic of the spirit and drive that settled Missouri and the rest of the American West.

Voting for the final Missouri Commemorative Quarter Design is open now and continues through Thursday, November 21, 2002 at Noon. CBIL’s steamboat design is Design #3. You can vote for this design by clicking on the following link:

Governor Bob Holden will select a winner based on votes received through the website. The winning design will be unveiled at Noon on Friday, November 22, 2002 and will debut during the summer of 2003.
